This is the first time that I’m combining my WIP Wednesday post and my One Monthly Goal post. It just worked out that way this time around.
My One Monthly Goal with Elm Street Quilts for August is to make as many masks, in 3 different sizes as I can from the fabrics I have picked out in the picture.
I bought the June Tailor Sew Your Own Reversible Face Mask Kit at Wal-Mart. I did so because I wanted the measurements for the youth and child masks as well as adult. The kit comes with materials to make 4 masks. I made one to see how it went. Now I’m off to start making more in all sizes.
Where my daughter lives, school starts on August 20th. She works at a Para and has requested that I make masks for her, and her 2 children. Our local schools start August 27th.
I checked in at the SoScrappy blog for this month’s color. I find that it’s purple. I’m going to give it my best shot to get back to working on my hexagons, but I’m not even making that promise to myself!

Good luck with your masks, Marsha! My kids go back to school on August 17th, but I think the college boy will be good with the masks I made him earlier in the summer, especially since the university is giving him two additional masks and half of his classes will be online only. My high school son will be 100% online learning until future notice, so he has plenty of masks, too. Oh, but I did buy my college son one of those mesh lingerie bags designed for washing underwire bras! I’ve been using those to wash our homemade fabric masks with the laundry, and then I hang them up to line dry so they will hopefully last as long as possible.
I’m having a world of a time trying to make the small child ones. Good idea to wash them in a mesh bag, I will remember that.
I had no idea Walmart was selling mask making kits. That’s a good way to get a pattern. Hope you have fun making them. I just mailed 3 more to my daughter. I think I’m caught up for now.
I’m hoping all goes well with the school openings! The fabric you’ve chosen is so cute – especially that peace sign and shark (?) fabric! Awesome choices!
Fun fabric. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
Those masks will be much needed I’m sure my hope you get them dinner soon and then back to your quilting. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.
I found I preferred the fitted masks rather than the pleated. I have them in three sizes. I put strings on the first ones, but I like strips of t-shirt material better than strings or elastic. I am sending about 18 to S in Minnesota. I gave V two, and I want to have enough for me to change out as often as twice a day. Yes, the mesh bag works great.
I would like a pattern for fitted. It’s slow going for me on getting much sewing done at all around my busy schedule, and attempting to get in the sleep that I need.
